German spirit of Christmas

German Christmas Markets (Weihnachtsmarktt)
Willkommen
There isn't a country in the world to celebrate Christmas as exhaustively as Germany. Just by the end of November, no matter where one goes in this country, he will find celebrations of age-old Advent traditions; all towns and cities start to "dress up" and prepare themselves for the festive mood. Over 2500 lively Christmas markets in beautiful setting reveal the warmest seasonal atmosphere in Europe. A visit to the Christmas market is no doubt a feast for the senses. Millions visitors are attracted here because of its inviting food, romantic charm, ancient carols, also good chance of traditional handicraft's shopping.

The Christmas markets, can look back on a long tradition. Many of them have been nurtured throughout long history, more than 500 years. In order to keep the original "flavour", Christmas markets often held on historical locations, which have been serving for centuries as assembly place to their community. Imagine when this colourful event settles in the middle of historic town centres, glittering light blaze on medieval half timber houses, the nostalgic atmosphere always puzzle visitor if they fall in dream.

I was lucky enough to get to the Christmas market in Strasbourg a few years ago and loved it. The vin chaud (hot wine) is not to be missed. Looks like your traveling partners got involved in some!! Happy New Year.

This material was taken on the morning of Thursday 1st January, following an attack on the Shabora refugee camp of Rafah, close to the city centre. This civilian neighbourhood (one of the most densely populated places in the Gaza Strip) was hit during an Israeli air strike shortly before midnight on Wednesday. The missile struck a small park without warning, destroying large numbers of surrounding homes and shops.

Dr. Abdullah Shehada, director of the Abu Yusef Al-Najar Hospital in Rafah, confirmed that a 33 year-old woman and a 22 year-old man were killed and nearly 60 people were injured, 18 of them woman and 16 of them children. Several elderly people were also injured, a couple of them seriously.

Witnessing the attack from Hi Alijnina, hundreds of metres away, an F-16 fighter jet was heard in the sky followed by a massive explosion. The wall of our house facing the direction of the attack shook and it seemed as though the windows were about to blow in. The wail of multiple ambulances was heard long afterwards.
