Marche de Noel a Strasbourg 2008

Strasbourg is easily one of my very favorite cities in France. This is my second trip there... but I could live there if it weren't for the too cold in winter and too hot in summer factor. We were told that, in fact, Strasbourg is has a micro climate and it is very different even living just 20 km outside of the city... In any case, it's probably one of the nicest cities to visit if you come to France... It's just two hours from Paris via the TGV. The hotel we stayed at was centrally located in the Place Kleber... and you can get to everything (practically) you would want to see in the city center by walking... Tons of bakeries, shops, and cute cafes everywhere... I definitely recommend it and if anyone comes to visit us here in Paris, I will gladly take a few days to visit Strasbourg. Good time to visit is in April... The food is really good, so's the wine and beer and the people are very nice, too...

Strasbourg is located in the heart of Europe. The name Strasbourg means, «City of Roads».
It is famous for its beautiful historical centre - the Grande Île - which was the first city centre to be classified entirely as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
In 1949 it was chosen as the headquarters of the Council of Europe. Since 1979 it has been the seat of the 15-member European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights since 1994.
The beauty of Strasbourg Cathedral inspired many famous men in history. Here are some of theirs impressions: Goethe: "The more I contemplate the façade of the Cathedral, the more I am convinced of my first impression that its loftiness is linked to its beauty."
Victor Hugo: "The church portals are beautiful, particularly the Roman portal; there are truly superb figures on horseback, the rose-window is noble and well-cut, the entire front of the church is a clever poem. But the true triumph of this Cathedral is the spire. It is a veritable tiara of stone with its crown and its cross. It is a gigantic and delicate marvel.

Strasbourg Cathedral de Notre-Dame is known as one of the most beautiful gothic cathedrals in Europe.
Strasbourg, an 18th century architectural gem.

The architecture of Strasbourg is closely related to the history of Strasbourg.
There are over 350 historic monuments in Strasbourg. Three churches (Saint-André, Saint-Michel, and Saint-Seurin) are listed as World Heritage sites by UNESCO.
A truly cosmopolitan city, Strasbourg is rich with social and cultural options.

There are many marché de noël's in the city center of Strasbourg. They are quite different from the ones I experienced in Paris, though you could still find some of the same "types" of Christmas/holiday trinkets.

The ones in Strasbourg focus more on things you typically find in the region of Alsace along with traditional food of the region.

I can definitely say that if I had to choose between the two places to visit at Christmas time, I would DEFINITELY choose Strasbourg over Paris- as it felt much more festive and also, I just adore this cute and charming town.

ALL THE BEST TO EVERYONE!
