Carnival fiesta in Limasol
Snapshots by: Phivos Nicolaides

The Carnival begins!
This year’s Limassol Carnival coincides with Valentine’s Day, making love the main theme of the annual festival.
This year’s Carnival King was named King of Hearts.

Limassol’s King Carnival was dressed in the colours of love and was accompanied by singers, dancers and bands.

Serenaders and Majorettes of the Cyprus Girl Guide Association and the Batucinio percussion instruments group with the Limassol Municipality Band participated in the parade.

Floats and individuals dancing in the sound of a unified music.

The big carnival parade was on Sunday, February 14., which was also Valentine’s Day.
Three parades took place.

The entry of the Carnival. The children’s parade followed on February 7 and then the final big parade on the 14th which concluded the carnival events.

Groups of people and children attending the Grand Parade of Carnival 2010 in the coastal city of Limassol, Cyprus.

This year 80 floats and pedestrian teams applied to participate.

The program for the Carnival, lasted for 13 days.

Carnival is something that comes deep from the fun-loving of the Lemesian soul.

People from Limasol are very well known for their passion to fun.

Limasol is the true city of fun and entertainment on the island.

The Lemesos (Limasol) Carnival is an important institution; a tradition for the citizens of Limassol.
Lemesos is a lively town largely due to the character of its citizens, a fun loving lot.

When the word Carnival is pronounced in Cyprus, it reminds us Limasol.

The biggest carnival show on the island is held in Limasol in the weeks prior to Lent.

Everybody in Cyprus loves a parade, but not like the people from Limasol!

Getting wild!!

Having real fun and joy.

People embraced the spirit of the festival.

Carnival starts ten days of celebrations before the privations of 50 days of Lent.

The entry of the Carnival King was heralded by fireworks.

Real fun for everyone. All ages together with the children having a fabulous time.

Spectacular costumes and colours.

No other event in Cyprus can be so cheerful.

All you need to do is to go out there and have fun.

No wonder that thousands of tourists visit Lemesos every year and keep coming back again and again!

Festivities attract thousands of people from all corners of the island and many tourists as well.

The community spirit geting involved in and enjoy the carnival arts.

Carnival is time to forget your inhibitions, wear a wild costume, play a character, live out your fantasies...

A city filled with carnival spectacle and colour.

A means of publicly expressing the creative talent and energy of all people.

A great opportunity for families to come out and enjoy the range of fun filled activitis.

Is all about fun and happiness.

Fabulous costumes and colors.

There's nothing like carnival!

Having enjoyable and exciting time all together.

All that is required is enthusiasm, a passion to have fun and good time.

Can’t be a King without a Queen… Perhaps she is a princess. I’m not sure… I only know that she is my friend Lydia from Limasol!!

Each of the some thousands paraders in every school has a fundamental role.

The young generation in action.

Each and every one put their utmost energy into their performance for the success of the parade.

Well it is an unforgetable experience - to parade in a beautiful costume.

The Carnival ended with a grand outdoor Carnival Ball with disguised costumes and music.

@ Margaret Pangert. I'm really glad to see you back my dear friend Margaret. You have been missed. As you can see, world can share a common holiday!!. The problem is that is so difficult to share a common vision for a better world!! Anyway, we didn't have a seven-year-old samba majorette! We had though hundreds of children participating in the parade and it was really great. Next year you are invited to join us here in Cyprus.

@ Yaelian. Kiitos, thank you so much for your kind comment. Terveisin, kind regards.

@ Cheryl. We had much better weather but the fun was equal amazing!

Θαυμάσιο το καρναβάλι σου, Φοίβο. Χαρά στην όρεξή σου όμως. Πόσες ώρες χρειάστηκες για όλες αυτές τις φωτογραφίες;

Beijinhos.
