The island of Evia, located off the eastern coast of Central Greece, is a wonderful region with a stunning landscape and scenery.

Evia is a magnificent island fusing both the dominating mountains and the blue crystal waters of the Aegean Sea.
Gifted with exceptional natural beauties, the island of Evia pulses with verdant forests, rivers and ravines, extended beaches. Furthermore, the historical monuments and the archaeological findings integrate the enchanting profile of Evia.
Halkida, the capital as well as the administrative, cultural, commercial and industrial center of the island of Evia, is a town with interesting character and special beauty. Eretria, is situated 20 km southeast of Halkida in cental Evia.
Eretria is the second largest town in Evia and was flourishing greatly due to extensive maritime commerce, mainly during 800-700 B.C. and the classical period.
There are two possibilities for the derivation of its name: it may come from the verb "ereso" which means "row" as the town had a strong navy, or from the word arotro (plough) which became arotria and finally Eretria as the inhabitants were landowners.
Eretria was an important Greek city (polis) in Ancient Greece. The modern town of Eretria was established in 1824, after Greek independence, and is now a popular beachside resort.

I've neen to Halkida, capital of Evia peninsula, although it was only for half a day. Lovely city.
I remember being fascinated by the Euripos strait (connecting the peninsula to the mainland) which is known for a unique sea tide phenomenon.

I confirm. I was close to Eretria 2 years ago. The main benefit from visiting this island is that despite the fact that it is close to Athens (good place for a one-day trips) it is still not tourist-oriented, so no crowded beaches etc
