Gettysburg National Military Park, Pennsylvania - USA

Gettysburg National Military Park, Pennsylvania

The Civil War's bloodiest battle with 51,000 casualties over three days in the summer of 1863.
The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended in 1863.

The fighting at Gettysburg is history.

Much has been written and said about the greatest battle of the Civil War.

There are many treasured artifacts collected in museums here and across the3 country.

The most tangible link to those three days in July is the battlefield itself, parts of which look much as they did in 1863.

Fences, hills, rocks, cannon, and even the monuments provide an opportunity to ponder and try to understand what happened here.

You can easily drive around the battlefield in two to three hours, to see around.
Like any other historical site, creates emotion...

Upon these peaceful , tilled Pennsylvania fields, more men fell than in any other battle fought in North America before or since.

Many of the Union soldiers who died here are buried in Soldiers’ National Cemetery where Abraham Lincoln delivered that poignant statement of purpose – the Gettysburg Address.

He was asked to provide "a few appropriate remarks", recognized today as one of the greatest speeches of his presidency.

At most of the numbered stops, exhibits and tablets describe significant action during the three days of battle.

Spectacular paintings for the “Battle of Gettyusburg”.

The building also contains a book and museum store.

Joanna Efstratiou and Popi Nicolaides.

The best way to sense the land and Gettysburg’s past is to walk the battlefield as thousands of soldiers once did.

Perdoe a sinceridade... paz... somente paz.
Bom fim de semana.

I don't love militaria, sorry! I prefer the humanist culture: art and archeological museums, art and cultural exhibitions, literature, good cinema, theatre, historical monuments... In Cyprus you have many exemples of the Hellenistic culture. The Greeks was warriors, but also great artists, philosophers, writers ...

Now there's a destination that I didn't expect to see here, you do get around. Despite this representing a most significant time in USA history, I'm not big on military things but I do like the art of the gun display, the curving pictures & the statue of Lincoln.
