Chios island, Greece

Snapshots by

writes from Chios, Greece

Chios (Hios) is the fifth largest of the Greek islands, situated in the Aegean Sea. The island is noted for its strong merchant shipping community, its unique mastic gum and its medieval villages. The eleventh century monastery of “Nea Moni”, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in the island.

The rich Chios history, the various monuments and the crystal-clear beaches are just few of the things that makes Chios a unique place among other islands.

Today Chios (Chora, as it is known locally) is the capital of the prefecture and has approximately 25.000 inhabitants.

  15. Tell me, are those windmills or do they just look like windmills?!

All the photos are wonderful and of great interest to me. But what I am most impressed with is the beauty of each and every young person in these photos. Truly exquisitely beautiful and handsome people one and all! And you look like you all appreciate one another for the good inside also. I wish you all a wonderful and peaceful future.

@ Joops. I thank you Joops!

@ sailor. Great place indeed, especially for sailors...

@ Lydia. Once upon a time were windmills. They were reconstructed and are 'monuments' in fact. Thank you so much for your kind comments and wishes Lydia. You are an extraordinary personality and I appreciate a lot your thoughts! Kind regards, Philip.
