Last Sunday, we decided to take a short road trip to the city of Drama. It's an hour and a half away, so we made sure to pack a DVD for the kids to watch so that we could distract them and hopefully avoid the inevitable question, "are we there yet" ?Despite my efforts, Izabella didn't abstain from persistently and systematically asking, "how much longer ?" or "How many more minutes do we have left?". So, after our short drive to Drama, the children were more than pleased with my choice of a holiday destination.

As we drove to the center of the city the holiday lights became more abundant and then they saw the park that was converted into a Christmas wonderland or "Oniroupoli" (Dream City).

I discovered Oniroupoli last February when doing a search for information about the city of Drama. Kosta and I spent a year living in Drama 15 years ago and I absolutely loved the city. It's such a warm, beautiful city and I now I had another excellent reason to visit.

A visit with Agios Vasilis aka Santa. Naturally, this was the highlight of our visit.

The park was full on Sunday evening. Games, amusement rides for the children and live performances. This photo provides an excellent representation of the festive atmosphere at Oneiropouli. A view of Oniroupoli from a bridge.

Across from the platiya ( city center) the buildings are decorated for the holidays.
The message reads: "Happy Holidays & Many Years".

Κάθε χρόνο τέτοια εποχή η πόλη της Δράμας φορά τα γιορτινά της και μεταμορφώνεται σε μια πανέμορφη χριστουγεννιάτικη Ονειρούπολη.

Από τις 3 Δεκεμβρίου μέχρι τις 3 Ιανουαρίου μικροί και μεγάλοι ζουν το όνειρο των Χριστουγέννων με ένα πρωτότυπο και όμορφο τρόπο.

Το φανταστικό χωριό με την πανδαισία των χρωμάτων, τα ποικιλόμορφα στολίδια, οι πολύχρωμοι φωτισμοί και γενικά η εορταστική ατμόσφαιρα καθηλώνει τον κόσμο.

Η μικρή Ιζαμπέλα καβάλα στο αλογάκι του καραζούλ ζει τρισευτυχισμένη το παραμύθι της...

Τα γλυκα χαμόγελα των παιδιών όταν ξεχνιούνται στην αγκαλιά του Ταρανδούλη και του Χιονούλη... Η μικρούλα Αλεξάνδρα απολαμβάνει το καρουσέλ.

Στη Χριστουγεννιάτικη ατμόσφαιρα του Άγιου Βασίλη, τα πάντα είναι μαγικά.

Η Ονειρούπολη είναι ένα μικρό χριστουγεννιάτικο χωριό που δημιουργήθηκε στο κέντρο της πόλης για πέμπτη χρονιά. Η Ιζαμπέλα με τον αδελφό της Φώτη το διασκεδάζουν με την ψυχή τους, όπως όλα τα παιδάκια.

Στην Ονειρούπολη όπου τα γλυκά ματάκια όλων των παιδιών, που με αγωνία περιμένουν την συνέχεια του παραμυθιού...

The area in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) in Germany is a popular centre of culture. It is well-known in particular for its living traditions and customs during the Christmas season.


The big miners' parade in the streets of the old town of Zwonitz on Saturday 28th November, 2009 is a cultural event incorporated in the regional customs during Christmas time.

This annual parade of miners through the streets of Zwönitz attracts a lot of people.

A fascinating custom and an important regional event.

Groups of men boys and women from all the neighboring towns and villages dress up in the traditional miners garb and march behind their town’s banner.

Magical atmosphere by the parade which wind its way through the town's neighbourhoods.

It’s not just Christmas trees and twinkling lights, but many other things...

The traditional "Pyramide anschieben" full of lights.

Hundres of marchers end up at the town's square where a miner and an angel decorate the place.

The parade ends at the city big square where the Mayor welcomes the spirit of Christmas.

Χριστούγεννα στη μικρή γερμανική πόλη Ζόνιτζ (Zwonitz)

Η περιοχή των βουνών Όρε (Ore) στο Erzgebirge της Σαξονίας στη Γερμανία είναι πολύ γνωστή για τις πλούσιες παραδόσεις και τα παλιά έθιμα, που ζουν ως τις μέρες μας.

Μέσα στη λαμπρότητα των Χριστουγεννιάτικων εορτών, το Σάββατο στις 28 Νοεμβρίου, οργανώθηκε η ετήσια παραδοσιακή παρέλαση των Μεταλλωρύχων στους δρόμους της πόλης.

Στην όμορφη αυτή παρέλαση παίρνουν μέρος σωματεία και συντεχνίες Μεταλλωρύχων από όλα τα χωριά και τις μικρές πόλεις της περιοχής.

Μεταλλωρύχοι, άνδρες, γυναίκες και παιδιά με εντυπωσιακές στολές παρελαύνουν κάτω από το λάβαρο της πόλης (σωματείου) τους.

Κάθε περιοχή έχει τις δικές της στολές και χρώματα.

Οι Μεταλλωρύχοι παρελαύνουν με πατροπαράδοτα εργαλεία και φανούς άλλων εποχών.

Το θέαμα είναι πραγματικά απολαυστικό.

Ο μικρός πιτσιρικάς, μας θυμίζει ότι, στους περασμένους αιώνες, μεταλλωρύχοι γινόντουσαν από τα 12 τους χρόνια...

Η εντυπωσιακή παρέλαση τελειώνει στην πλατεία της πόλης.

Μέσα στην υπέροχη εορταστική ατμόσφαιρα, ο Δήμαρχος καλωσορίζει την έναρξη των εορταστικών εκδηλώσεων, που δεν είναι και λίγες.

Οι φημισμένες και πατροπαράδοτες Χριστουγεννιάτικες Αγορές στη Γερμανία είναι θεσμός. Πάνω από 2,500 σε όλη τηη χώρα, σε προκαλούν να ζήσεις τη μαγεία των Χριστουγέννων!

Το πάρτυ ή το πανηγύρι ή η γιορτή τελειώνει με τα πατροπαράδοτα λουκάνικα και το ζεστό κρασί γκλουβάιν (Glühwein). Οι εντυπώσεις άριστες από κάθε σκοπιά.

Zwonitz in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) is a popular centre of culture. Erzgebirge is well-known as “Christmas country”. The making of wooden decorations and toys has got a long tradition. At Christmas time every town and village shines in the gleam of thousands of lights.

Wooden figures of miners, angels, nutcrackers and arched candle holders (Schwibbogen) can be seen in every window.

Christmas trees shine in the market square and huge wooden roundabouts, the so-called “Pyramiden” give the town a festive atmosphere.

On 27th November, Friday evening the Hutzentage began with the "Ahlichteln" at St. Andrew in the hall of the agricultural cooperative. (Picture: Ewa and Dominica from Poland).

This year the parade was multicultural as many guests from some other European countries participated in this traditional event. (Picture: Young girls from Sweden).

Christmas market attracts thousands of people where they drink the popular glühwein (hot spiced wine punch) and eat hot dogs.

Το Zwonitz στα βουνά Ore (Erzgebirge) είναι γνωστό μέρος για τις πολιτιστικές του δραστηριότητες και παράδοση.

Τα Χριστούγεννα εορτάζονται με μεγάλη λαμπρότητα, όπως εξ' άλλου και σε όλη τη Γερμανία. Το βράδυ της Παρασκευής 27 Νοεμβρίου όπως κάθε χρόνο τέτοια εποχή, οργανώνεται η παρέλαση του Αγ. Ανδρέα, η οποία σηματοδοτεί και την έναρξη της Χριστουγεννιάτικης περιόδου.

Παρά το κρύο, αρκετός κόσμος με επικεφαλής τους πατροπαράδοτους φύλακες της παλιάς εποχής και τους εκπροσώπους των μεταλλωρύχων ηγούνται της παρέλασης μέσα από τους δρόμους της πόλης.

Η εορταστική ατμόσφαιρα που δημιουργείται δεν αφήνει κανένα ασυγκίνητο.

Η παρέλαση καταλήγει στη μεγάλη πλατεία της πόλης.

Ο Δήμαρχος κηρύσσει την επίσημη έναρξη των χριστουγεννιάτικων εκδηλώσεων.

Ανοίγει μετά και η Χριστουγεννιάτικη Αγορά.

Οι φημισμένες χριστουγεννιάτικες αγορές στη Γερμανία προσελκύουν πολλή κόσμο.

Το πατροπαράδοτο ζεστό κόκκινο κρασί (γκλούβαϊλ) και τα λουκάνικα θα πρέπει να δοκιμαστούν, εάν επιζετείται το πνεύμα της εποχής!

Τα πάντα στην πόλη είναι όμορφα στολισμένα με τα χριστουγεννιάτικα τους φώτα και διακοσμήσεις. Οι παραδοσιακές αγογές έχουν την τιμητική τους.

Το τεράστιο χριστουγεννιάτικο δέντρο δεν θα μπορούσε να λείπει.
