Welcome to Naples, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy.

Bella Napoli, the capital of the Campania region in Italy is the largest city in Southern Italy. It ranks as the third largest city of Italy after Rome and Milan. It has a great bay with nice views of the pretty Capri, Ischia and Procida Islands. Nearby, ancient cities Pompeii and Herculaneum are located, which both were buried by Mont Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 AD.

The immense panorama over the gorgeous gulf of Naples with the Sorrento Peninsula in the south and Cape Miseno in the north, beyond is the Gulf of Gaeta, the colorful folklore (pizza Napolitana, Mount Vesuvius, music) make Naples as one of the most powerful, symbolic images of Italy.

The Greeks founded the city of Naples (Neapolis, in ancient Greek, which means new city) between the 7th and 6th centuries BC. The old settlement was abandoned and was given the name of «Palepolis» (old city) and the new city of «Neapolis» was founded next to it. They inhabited the region long before Roman times. The ancient design of Naples (locally Italian Napoli) still exists today.

After the fall of the Roman Empire, Naples became an autonomous Duchy of Byzantium (763 A.D.). The Byzantines were followed by the Normans, then by the Spaniards, then the Austrian rule (1707-1734). Between 1806 and 1815 it was the French period and Garibaldi entered the city in 1860. Annexed to the Kingdom of Piedmont, which then became the Kingdom of Italy in 1870.

The port of Naples has been protected by an odd, beautiful castle (built it in 1279), looming over the harbour behind the Palazzo Reale and San Carlo, for some 700 years now.

The imposing castle, «Castel Nuovo» has been modified several times. The facade is a 15th century work. This is a must see monument in Naples.

The area became popular for holidays due to its beautiful coastline and luxury thermal spas which became famous throughout Europe many centuries ago.

The Piazza del Plebiscito, was renovated and is the most magnificent in Naples. This noble semicircular square (19th Century) is built in the form of an amphitheater and is surrounded by wonderful monuments such as the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola, with the neoclassical façade which is similar to the Pantheon in Rome, the Royal Palace and the Galleria Umberto I.

A long and rich heritage which you can see in the numerous monuments, buildings, churches and other sites. In the old district of Naples, you’ll see the most typical sights of this city which has a long history.

Via San Gregorio Armeno – This road is famous worldwide as the «nativity scene road». In this road, which links the old city center to the main roads, there are some important monuments such as the San Gregorio Armeno Monastery.

This is also the city center for modern and elegant shops of all types.

The old town’s street is wonderful! This is one of the most exceptional cities of Europe. Naples is dangerous, decadent and dirty, but at the same time fascinating, different, intriguing and a must see if you want to know the South of Italy. Don’t be surprised if you find a wonderful newly married couple in the middle of the street, taking photos for their wedding album. That’s what gives this city its special flavor!

Όμορφη και παράξενη Νάπολη, ηφαίστειο που καίει!

Στο άκουσμα του ονόματος Νάπολη οι συνειρμοί που αναπόφευκτοι γίνονται είναι με την Καμόρα, τη Ναπολιτάνικη εκδοχή της Μαφίας. Η Καμόρα, αυτό το καλά οργανωμένο συνδικάτο του εγκλήματος ελέγχει την οικονομική ζωή της πόλης.

Όμως, η Νάπολη η τρίτη μεγαλύτερη πόλη της Ιταλίας μετά τη Ρώμη και το Μιλάνο και η μεγαλύτερη της Νότιας Ιταλίας, δεν είναι μόνο προβλήματα, ναρκωτικά και οργανωμένο έγκλημα. Αν θέλετε να δείτε τη ζωή του Νότου στην Ιταλία, τις πολλές διαφορές μεταξύ Βορρά και Νότου, καλά κάνετε να επισκεφθείτε τη Νάπολη.

Σε όλη τη Νάπολη διακρίνονται τα ίχνη των αιώνων κατοχής που πλέον έχουν ενσωματωθεί στη σύγχρονη πόλη. Πρόκειται για μια σύνθετη κληρονομιά που συνέβαλε στον πλούτο των μουσείων, των αρχαίων αμφιθεάτρων και των αρχαιολογικών χώρων, αλλά και στις εκκλησίες, στα μοναστήρια και στα μνημεία.

Η Νάπολη είναι μια από τις πιο παλιές και πιο πλούσιες σε ιστορία και κουλτούρα, πόλεις της Ευρώπης. Ο πλούτος της κληρονομιάς της είναι μεγάλος και ανεκτίμητος. Σε κάθε σου βήμα διακρίνεις τα ίχνη των περασμένων αιώνων που δεν χάθηκαν στη σύγχρονη πόλη.

Είναι γεμάτη μοναδικά ιστορικά μνημεία, βασιλικά ανάκτορα, κτίρια, πλατείες, εκκλησίες, μοναστήρια, κάστρα, μουσεία και εκθεσιακούς χώρους.

Στη Νάπολη δεν χορταίνεις να χαζεύεις την πόλη και τους ανθρώπους της. Κάθε γωνιά και μια νέα εμπειρία. Στους δρόμους, στα πεζοδρόμια, στα παγκάκια, στα μαγαζιά. Εκρηκτικοί οι Ναπολιτάνοι και οι Ναπολιτάνες, διακρίνονται για το έντονο Μεσογειακό τους ταμπεραμέντο.

Χτισμένη σε λόφους στη βόρεια πλευρά του ομώνυμου κόλπου και σε απόσταση αναπνοής από το ηφαίστειο του Βεζούβιου, που εξαφάνισε την Πομπηία το 79 μ.Χ. για αιώνες ανέπτυξε τα γράμματα και τις τέχνες. Αγαπήθηκε από τους ανθρώπους του πνεύματος και της τέχνης.

Η ομορφιά του τόπου είναι μαγευτική και αδιαμφισβήτητη. Ακόμη και στην ομορφιά της έχει αυτό το κάτι, το διαφορετικό. Μπορεί να είναι οι εντυπώσεις, μπορεί να είναι ο μύθος που την περιβάλλει.

Όμως το ‘βιογραφικό’ της σε σαγηνεύει. Είναι γεμάτη εκπλήξεις, οι περισσότερες ευτυχώς ευχάριστες! Είναι ένα ολοζώντανο Μεσογειακό κομμάτι με την ολότελα δική του προσωπικότητα, χαρακτήρα και ιστορία.

Ο απειλητικός Βεζούβιος δεσπόζει της περιοχής. Στους πρόποδες τους η αρχαία Πομπηία και το Ερκουλάνεουμ (Ηράκλειο), το 79 μ.Χ. σκεπάστηκαν με τη λάβα του ηφαιστείου για 1700 χρόνια.

Για την πλούσια ιστορία της, τους σημαντικούς πολιτιστικούς και καλλιτεχνικούς θησαυρούς της, έχει κηρυχθεί παγκόσμιο πολιτιστικό μνημείο και συγκαταλέγεται στον κατάλογο της Παγκόσμιας Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς της ΟΥΝΕΣΚΟ.

Από τους πρώτους που ανακάλυψαν την περιοχή ήταν οι Αρχαίοι Έλληνες, που ίδρυσαν την νέα πόλη και την ονόμασαν Νεάπολη. Ο μύθος θέλει τη Νάπολη χτισμένη στο σημείο όπου η θάλασσα ξέβρασε νεκρή τη σειρήνα Παρθενόπη. Τον 10ο αιώνα π.Χ. Έλληνες έχτισαν μια νέα πόλη που πήρε το όνομα Νεάπολις, ενώ η παλιά μετονομάστηκε Παλαιόπολη.

Η Ιταλική φινέτσα και μόδα είναι παγκοσμίως γνωστή για τη λεπτότητα του γούστου της.

Οι Ναπολιτάνοι είναι φιλικοί και γνήσιοι Μεσογειακοί τύποι, με ότι σημαίνει αυτό!

Το νησί Κάπρι όπως φαίνεται από τη θάλασσα. Μεγιστάνες του πλούτου και διάσημες προσωπικότητες, όπως αστέρες του Χόλλυγουντ έχουν αγοράσει θερινές επαύλεις.

Φεύγουμε από τη Νάπολη γεμάτοι εμπειρίες και εικόνες απαράμιλλης ομορφιάς στο μυαλό μας, που δεη ξεχνιούνται εύκολα. Για να κατανοήσει ίσως κάποιος καλύτερα την κουλτούρα της Μεσογείου, θα πρέπει να περάσει και από τη Ναπολιτάνικη μεριά...
