Larnaca International Airport, Cyprus

An ultra-modern airport
Larnaca International Airport - Glafcos Clerides
Cyprus opened an ultra-modern airport that it hopes will boost flagging tourism and boost prospects of it becoming a regional transport hub.
The project is a milestone in Larnaka Airport’s history-a history that began in 1975 under very difficult conditions. The new airport is four times larger than the old terminal, which was hastily constructed toward the end of 1974, after the invasion of the island by Turkey forced the closure of Nicosia International Airport.
Larnaca airport now has double the capacity to handle passenger traffic of up to 7.5 million people annually with a provision to extend this to nearly 10 million when the need arises.
Key features include 67 check-in counters, 16 air bridges, departure and arrivals situated on different levels and parking for 2,650 vehicles.
It took three years to build at a cost 656 million euros (973 million dollars) in what is one the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Cyprus.
The new airport is equipped with 16 departure and arrival gates and 67 check-in counters, as well as parking spaces for 2,650 vehicles.
Τέσσερις φορές πιο μεγάλο του παλιού αεροδρομίου, με 67 σημεία ελέγχου επιβατών, το Διεθνές Αεροδρόμιο Λάρνακας είναι σε θέση να εξυπηρετήσει μέχρι και 7,5 εκατομμύρια επιβάτες ετησίως με προοπτική για Eventually, the new airport will be able to welcome 10m passengers annually.

Τελικά το ονόμασαν Ζήνων;

Hi Phivos! This airport is magnificent! It reminds me a little of Charles de Gaulle with the tubular escalators. Do you remember when Jacqueline Onassis lived on one of your islands? I remember years ago going to Beirut that Cyprus was the safe port.
Your blog is delicious! So many places to see! I couldn't find the follow space? If you could let me know...By the way, your sidebars are fabulous! Thanks for dropping by my blog today. Best, Margaret

@ Mediterranean kiwi. Larnaka airport started operations oly last week Maria!

@ Leesa. Your are welcome Leesa!

@ DUTA. Thanks a lot Duta!

@ Margaret Pangert. Hi Margaret! Thank you so much for your kind words. You are absolutely right when you say that this airport reminds you a little of Charles de Gaulle with the tubular escalators. Have in mind that the new Larnaca terminal, was built by a consortium of French and Cypriot companies!!
Jacqueline Onassis lived on the island of SKORPIOS around the decade of '70.
The follow space is right on the bottom of the blog!
Kind regards and we keep in touch.

Yep, reminds me of Charles de Gaule as well. and I remember, how wonderful it looked when it was opened, almost magic, and this spring we got lost there in the middle of the night - it was all deserted and looked like something from times long gone by. how fast the world changes!

Interesting to see your new airport and most of all: another piece from Cyprus!

Thanks for your comments and especially for the one re the wall. made me realize that there is probably quite something we share... I'll get back to you on that one... when I write a book on the subject.

Have been very busy with renovations and also B&B-guests. you can see the pics on my other blogs...

Καλορίζικο λοιπόν Φοίβο μου! Άρα την επόμενη φορά που θα σας επισκεφτώ θα είναι στο καινούργιο αεροδρόμιο! Στο ίδιο σημείο με το παλιό βρίσκεται Φοίβο μου, ή αλλού;

Phivos- It is a fantastic building!

I think the reason Margaret asked about the follow button is because - for some strange reason - your entire left-hand sidebar has disappeared. :( I hope you can figure out what is wrong without much angst!

I love airports. I love all kind of ports. I love to be nowhere and everywhere. And every time we travel I stress Eleni because I want to spent time in the Airport, just to be there drinking coffees, walking up and down, observing people. And now I am looking forward for our next trip already scheduled for the 23rd of December. So…this time we will be there in our brand new airport 3 hours earlier. At least! (Eleni will kill me)

*Zenon? Great choice!

Very beautiful indeed!! I just hope that it will be used at its capacity and will be managed well. Not to be a pessimist but I have seen hospitals in Cyprus with broken smoke alarms fixed with band-aids and doors been open in the middle of the summer with the AC running because people wanted to smoke outside.

@ Maria Tzirita.

@ Lydia. Will you visit it Lydia? How is now the left-hand sidebar of the blog? Kind regards!

I really do hope to visit it one day.
Maybe something is wrong from my end, because I still cannot tonight see your left side-bar. I don't have this hsppen with other blogs (not that I'm aware of). Will you ask friends what they see here?

Margaret Pangert said...

Hi Phivos! Thanks for your help! And I should get an award as I am your 100th follower!

Hi Lydia! There doesn't seem to a left sidebar per se. Titles and sentences spill a bit into that space, that's all. (My two-cents worth! Sorry!)

LOVE to both of you, Margaret

@ Lydia. You are most welcome any time.

@ Margaret Pangert. Hi Margaret! Thanks for your kindness! You should get an award as I am your 100th follower for sure! Let me think about it. Give me some time please and I'll do it! Love to you and Lydia my good friends and supporters!

Ή μήπως βλέπω φαντάσματα;
