Ptolemaida is a city in Northern Greece. It lies in the prefecture of Kozani, which is part of Western Macedonia with nearly 36,00 inhabitants.
Thanks to our good friends Evgenia and Petros Alexandritis we had a wonderful time in Ptolemaida.

It is considered a highly industrial area. In its subsoil, there are huge amounts of lignite which is the raw material of the power plants.
There are four power plants in this area producing 70% of Greece's electrical power.
In the area of Ptolemaida many archeological findings have occurred in the last 30 years due to mining operations.
The name of the city is due to Ptolemeos, a general of Great Alexander, who was coming from the ancient city of Eordea.

According to archaeologists, the Ptolemaida region has been inhabited since 6000 BC

Very interesting. I like the outdoor cafes. Even though the weather is so great in California, there are not a lot of outdoor cafes. A lot of restaurants are putting in outdoor dining patios, but you just don't get the people watching that you do in sidewalk cafes.
Ptolemaida is a historically 'power'ful city! thank you for the insights!
Interesting facts I didn't know about Ptolemaida. And, it's so close but never been there either!
Very interesting photos and story.

I always learn something new from your blog about places all over the world. I love the narrow street scenes. You're giving me wanderlust but I cannot get away. Too bad!
Blessings to you and your family,
Debbie

@ Vaggelis. Είναι η αλήθεια ότι παρά τα διάφορα μέτρα που έχουν παρθεί, η μόλυνση του περιβάλλοντος μοιραία πάει σύννεφο...
