Fondation Hellénique de la Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris

The Foundation Hellénique, the Greek Student Union at the International University Campus of Paris, a place of life, artistic and scientific creativity for hundreds of Greek and foreign students.

The Greece Foundation was created on the initiative of Nicolas Politis, professor of international law and ambassador of Greece in Paris. The building according to the blueprints was designed by the Greek architect Nikolaos Zahos.

It was financed by a collection of Greeks together with the financial support provided by the Greeks of Diaspora. The remainder was provided by the Greek government. Inaugurated on December 23, 1932, it was given to the University of Paris for lodging Greek students continuing higher education.

With its portico evoking the Acropolis and its decorated side walls of pilasters surmounted by a blue faience frieze, the Greece Foundation honours ancient Greek architecture.

Το Ελληνικό Ίδρυμα στη Διεθνή Πανεπιστημιούπολη στο Παρίσι

Το 1932 με πρωτοβουλία της τότε κυβέρνησης Βενιζέλου και του υπουργού Εξωτερικών Νικόλαου Πολίτη αποφασίστηκε η δημιουργία μιας ελληνικής εστίας στη νεοϊδρυθείσα πανεπιστημιούπολη του Παρισιού.

Ο Έλληνας πρέσβης τότε στο Παρίσι Νικόλαος Πολίτης εργάστηκε με ζήλο για υλοποίηση της απόφασης αυτής.

Αρχιτέκτονας του επιβλητικού κτιρίου ήταν ο Νικόλαος Ζάχος ο οποίος με τα σχέδια του θέλησε να τιμήσει την αρχαία ελληνική αρχιτεκτονική.

Η χρηματοδότηση του έργου έγινε με εθνικούς πόρους και χορηγίες του Ελληνισμού της Διασποράς.
