Marseille is located in the South East France and it is the second largest city of France with a population of about one million inhabitants. It is the capital city of Bouches-du-Rhone Department and the main Mediterranean port of France. Its port is connected with the Rhone river (one of the major rivers of Europe), by the Rove Tunnel, a 7 kilometers mile underground canal opened in 1927.

Marseille France has a rich and turbulent history with the mother country, officially becoming part of France in the late 15th century.

Today, Marseille is an important port of France, and undeniably French.

Marseille was first settled by the Greeks from Phocea. In 600 B.C., ancient Massilia later became an ally of Rome, which annexed it in 49 B.C.

Sharing the history of Provence it passed to the French crown in 1486. The 19th century brought great commercial expansion.

A gleaming white city rising in a semicircle from the sea, with marinas along the sea bays.

Is the leading commercial port on the Mediterranean.

Marseilles is famous for its beauty.

The heart of the city is Vieux Port area in which there are many outstanding hotels, that offer best sea view.

The cities of Toulon and Nice are not far away, while Paris is about 9 hours drive by car.

With a diverse population, interesting museums, and striking monuments.
Marseille is a fascinating city, well worth a visit.

Marseille, the oldest city in France, is a beautiful place with a very different character of its own.
