Old little Datca, Turkey

The charming old village
Thanks to our friends Aysegul Tastaban Erzincanoglu and Behcet Erzincanoglu we had a wonderful tour to the nearby old village of Datca.

The village is located in the beautiful Datca peninsula near the modern Datca in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The Datca peninsula has beautiful natural surroundings: It is surrounded by the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea from the North and South respectively.

This was the traditional center of Datca. An attractive village setting, the nearest town being Datca some 15 minutes drive away.

Approximately four kilometers from Datca lies Old Datca or as the locals call it "Eski Datca".

Eski Datca (Old Datca) with beautiful old stone small houses, is showing typical architecture of the area.

"Eski" in Turkish means "old". Eski Datca is the original village, the town now known as merely Datca used to be a near uninhabited harbour for the original village higher up in the hill.

Eski Datça attracts visitors for its very nice old stone houses all in the same style along cobbled streets.

It’s great to wander around these narrow street full of history and tradition.

Strolling in the village of Eski Datça, with the old Greek houses and a few coffee shops.

The houses were mostly built by Greeks who lived here until the population exchange of 1922- 1923 between Turkey and Greece.

They are made of honey-coloured limestone, and hide behind high garden walls heaving with bougainvillea and honeysuckle.

Beautiful environment and still alive tradition.

The old village houses in Datca after substantial renovation.

Many have lovely old features such as stone arches.

The result we see and we enjoy today has been done by stonemasons, architects and other experts.

Restored stone houses provide with a striking view.

Magnificent original features and a unique character.

Climbing the hillside everything is extremely well-kept, in between a greenery.

A walk around the village takes just a few minutes, but there are several handicraft shops and a few caffee shops.
Aysegul and Popi enjoying shopping from the small stands at the entrance of the village. There are hundred of items and souvenirs you can buy.
The yound handsome boys look happy and enjoy the presence of foreign visitors.
Beautiful shops selling various kind of traditional things.
Charming little girls part of the beauty of Old Datca.
Another small shop in the village.
A little bit outside of the village, the construction of modern vilas is growing fast.
Time to leave. Behcet's car is waiting for us.
Thank you dear friends Aysegul Tastaban Erzincanoglu
and Behcet Erzincanoglu

Beijos.
